Daily Gold News: February 20 – Gold Price Extends Its Uptrend

Gold is hitting a new record high today; economic data, geopolitcs remain in focus.

The gold futures contract lost 0.44% on Wednesday, Febraury 19, as it fluctuated along record highs following Tuesday’s rebbound of 1.7%. Gold continued its consolidation amid geopolitical news, further economic data. On Friday, it pulled back, breaking below the $2,900 level and retracing some o its recent rally.

On November 14, gold was the lowest since mid-September after dropping in a reaction to the presidential elections. Gold extended its decline from the late October high, reaching a local low of $2,541.50.

This morning, gold is extending the advance, as we can see on the daily chart (the chart includes today’s intraday data):

The gold price is 1.1% higher, as it is trading along the $2,970 level. What about the other precious metals? Silver is 1.8% higher, platinum is 0.8% higher and palladium is 2.1% higher. So, the main precious metals’ prices are higher this morning.

Today, we will get the Unemployment Claims release at 8:30 a.m., among others.
